The Role of the Custodian

 

Course Overview

One of the important functions within the funds industry is Custody. This training programme provides delegates with a comprehensive understanding of what the role of the Custodian is.  The Training covers investment securities - what they are, how they are traded & settled in the market place and how safekeeping of securities is managed.  During the training programme, delegates learn about the cash element of trading, how it moves between correspondent banks, how foreign exchange works & cash is managed.

 

The Role of the Custodian programme provides delegates with an understanding of Income and Corporate Actions and the Custodian’s role in passing actions on to the fund. It also looks at the importance of servicing the client.


Course Objectives
At the end of this training programme, delegates will be able to:
bullet point Outline the role of the Custodian;
bullet point Define different instrument types;
bullet point Describe the securities settlement cycle, both trade and cash, including    safekeeping of securities;
bullet point Demonstrate the importance of trade and cash reconciliations and the impact on    the fund;
bullet point Identify different corporate action types;
bullet point Explain types of income collected for various instruments;
bullet point State the risks associated with custody.


Target Audience
Employees in the Funds Industry who are new or recent hires to the custody function.


Employees outside of the custody team who require further knowledge, e.g. Fund Administration, Transfer Agency, Shareholder Services, Global Custody, Trustee, Compliance or Risk.

Methodology

A combination of theory, group discussion, case studies and practical exercises

This programme can be customised to incorporate relevant fund information, client procedures and controls.
